Only the Strong Survive

There's a lot of restaurant competition here in Rehoboth Beach. Some places are just OK, most are pretty good, and a few are exceptional. I promise you honesty and objectivity, so check out the reviews and ratings, then post your own opinions. Click any Ratings at a Glance box to see how we figure the ratings.

"Why does Sea World have a seafood restaurant? I'm halfway through my fishburger and I realize, Oh my God ... I could be eating a slow learner."

shuckers1CROPJD Shuckers is under new ownership! Former partner Jamie Davis has teamed up with former bartender Strohm Edwards. Interestingly enough, their plans include more fresh seafood--one of The Foodie's gripes about the place before it was sold.

The entertainment will continue, with a DJ on Thursdays and live music on Saturdays. The Foodie is planning a return trip after they settle in, and a new food review will be posted here.

Call (302) 945-8850 to double-check the specials, especially in the off-season. They open at 4 during the week and serve dinner 'til 9 Mon. thru Fri., and 'til 10 on Sat. and Sun. Lunch on Sat. and Sun. goes from 11:30am 'til 4pm.

JD Shuckers is at 11 Peddler's Village at the corner of Rt. 24 and Camp Arrowhead Road (Rd. 279), about 5 or so minutes west of Rt. 1. There's lots of parking. (L. (Sat.&Sun. only), D., Bar). Price range: Moderate +.

It seems to depend on how many people are in there. We have had some great meals when it wasn't busy, and some major disasters (cold food, entrees 10 min apart) when they are busy. You never know what's going to happen when you go there.

Inconsistant and way too noisy. Cannot carry on a conversation. Will not go back.

Hey...I want to see people succeed...We loved the Old Shuckers...nice wait staff and the early birds really brought us in..and also many of our visitors. However, on certain nights it was "literally painful"...the noise hurt...there was one entertainer who was both over the top loud...and appeared to many in the restaurant...Drunk. When we go to Shuckers we hold our breath that we won't be exposed to the painful noises that totally prevent conversation..and really trash the ambience.
Good luck...we'd like to come more often the early birds, and entertainment that is more respectful will keep bringing us back!
