GRUB_insideGrub isn't very big, so they don't stock a whole lot of any one thing. They do, however, have a wide variety of goodies--some of which are unusual. So far, I've been lucky and found that elusive small buttermilk, big onion, sour cream, head of lettuce or pound of butter. Because of their association with Cultured Pearl Restaurant (next door), they have some things you wouldn't expect. By the way, there isn't a Ratings at a Glance box because they really don't apply to a grocery/deli. Y'pays y'dues, y'takes y'chances.

For example, I ran in there a few months ago just knowing they wouldn't have the jasmine rice I needed. They had it. So it always pays to ask. Everyone who works there is helpful and will go "in the back" to check if you act pitiful enough.

Their little sandwich shop/deli features Boars Head meats, and that's not a bad thing. I love the "Turkey Grub" (a 1/3 pound of thin-as-air turkeyGRUB_Coffee_Bar slices, bacon, tomato and lettuce). Choose your bread, and they'll gleefully slather it with mayo. The Ham & Brie sandwich (with pineapple mustard, yet) is also wonderful. It's pressed panini-style in a crispy baguette. I also suggest The Chub, constructed with turkey, pepperoni, bibb lettuce and creamy havarti (or any of the other 5 cheese varieties) pressed between thick slices of GRUB_deli_caserustic bread. Dijon, mayo and butter top it all off. See why they call it that?

As I stood there during my visits, I couldn't help but notice the litany of people ordering the Berk's All Beef Jumbo Hot Dog. They have all sorts of toppings, and apparently this is one of the best-kept secrets on Rehoboth Avenue.

A note, scrawled in black crayon and taped to my front door (apparently left by The Town Crawler under dark of night), proclaimed that the Roast Beef Sandwich on a Toasted Baguette with Havarti, Tomato with a light dollop of Horsey Sauce did perfect duty as the perfect lunch. She also suggested the Salad Bar and the wonderful selection of haute cuisine chocolate bars (get the dark chocolate and chili pepper one). The Crawler is attracted to anything that has the word "bar" in it.

They also have Hershey's Ice Cream, potato chips, Pulled Pork sliders on Brioche, various coffee beans, Jamaican Meat Pies, Vegan Samosas (!), lots of sodas, breakfast sandwiches, hot coffee, and (they are next to Cultured Pearl, after all) a large selection of Sushi including Tuna & Cucumber Roll, a spicy Mexican/Tuna Roll and even a Tamago (a sugar/soy sauce omelet) roll with Smoked Eel, Crabstick and Cucumber. All this from a littleGRUB_nuts_and_stuff deli that used to be a High's Dairy Store.

Whether you're in need of a soda, a variety of nuts and other crispy dry goods, a Shrimp in Yellow Curry and Chutney sandwich (with cashews), or a lone tomato, Grub is open long hours and the people there are eager to please. One of Grub_decor_and_pigmy favorite Foodettes, Kathy the Falcon, highly recommends the French Baguettes. She insists they are better than Harris Teeter. To some locals, them's fightin' words. Give 'em a try and then share it with us below, please.

Grub Grocery is immediately to the left of the Cultured Pearl restaurant at 305 Rehoboth Avenue. They have lots of parking. Need something even more unusual than what they already have? Call them at (302) 226-4782. Click here for their deli menu. (B., L., D., Late) Price range: n/a

Glad you found my note, Foodie. ...Another nice thing about Grub is that they will stock pretty much whatever you want if you are a local. Kathy is right about the baguettes and they have a free book exchange, to boot.

Might park my Mini in the back , then pitch a tent right there. Also need to rob WT, but it's not that far away, easy walk.

Go ahead. Use the cream, use the butter. You only live once, and in the South, once is enough if you do it right.
