Rehoboth Beach Reviews - Frozen Treats / Desserts

Imagine cool and creamy soft-serve "ice cream," right here in Rehoboth Beach, with no more calories, carbs and whatever than a single, solitary banana. Period. No sugar, no dairy, no "Splenda" nonsense...nothin'. Just a banana. Period. (Did I say that already?)

Well, Annie's Banannies on First Street, just a couple of doors to the left of the Frogg Pond, has it. Magical machines (like big powerful juicers, but horizontal--go figure) turn a frozen banana into a cold and creamy white soft-serve that tastes like...well, a banana. Toppings include all kinds of fresh fruit including strawberries, pineapple, blueberries, mango and crunchy stuff like walnuts, ginger snaps (!) and a lot more. (The Foodie gets the mango and walnuts.) If you've been dreaming of a soft-serve treat without all the fat and/or artificial stuff, then Annie's Banannies is the place to go. They are very nice in there and will happily let you watch the magical process. Yum.

We've been going there since they opened. We love it...all the creaminess without the chemical taste. Is there any place you don't go!?!?

I love the product at Annie's Banannies, too, and wholeheartedly recommend it, but I'd hesitate before saying it tastes really banana-ish. Now it is a banana. I've seen it go through the juicer and come out the other side all frozen goodness, but I'm not that hot for things that taste like banana, and I'm not sure that's how I'd describe the taste. It's much more delicate in flavor than just your plain, on the counter fresh banana. It doesn't taste at all like something with a manufactured banana taste...it's a lovely, pure lightly sweet vehicle for whatever you choose to top it with. My own favorite is with caramel, a splash of chocolate sauce and a bit of whipped cream on top. Sort of like frozen Banoffee Pie, if you're of a British dessert turn of appetite. Well, to each their own. Just go and don't let the banana taste scare you off! MMMmmmm!

We're fans, too. Annie's is a "MUST VISIT" every time we're in town.

My husband likes the Nutty Banannie (toppings inluced agave sweetened peanut butter and chopped, salted peanuts; hubby adds chocolate syrup). I love that too, but it's hard to resist the Mocha Nannie (chopped chocolate covered espresso beans, mocha syrup and whipped cream). And let's not forget the Bunch Berries! All of those fresh berries piled high on that creamy frozen banana, and drizzled with homemade strawberry puree . . . mmmm, I want one now! Oh, so good.

You can't improve on perfection. Get just the mango topping and be happy. It works.

0 # How can it not be ice cream!?!?!Judy Turner 2010-08-18 10:31
Our favorite place in town for a great sweet, but healthy treat! It's "yummo"! We love sitting outside eating our blueberry topped banannie & watching people check out the place, not sure of exactly what this shop is selling when it says it's not ice cream. We've loved telling them how good it is & when they try it, everyone has the same "WOW" reaction because it is so good!
